November/December

Hello Ladies-

Now that Halloween is over I figured you could get your head more around reading a Christmas book. I thought it would be nice to read something that has an uplifting message since we always strive to be better through the holidays.

I have chosen to read The Forgotten Carols by Michael McLean. I think most of you have heard of this book and probably know the music. I read this book back in probably 2006 and I really liked it. I liked reading the chapters and then singing the song to myself at the end.

If you go to the Library's website and put it on hold you can get just the story version but there are only a few copies of it. But if you get the "Kit" there are 11 copies of it, and you get the book and the CD. So it'll be a full multi-media experience! =)

I have chosen to host book club on Thursday December 3rd, probably around 7 p.m. I know it's a busy time of year, but I thought the first week of December wont be as bad as Thanksgiving week!

 Please come it'll be so fun and a great kick off to the Christmas season!

October's book for our little book club is going to be "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness.  I'm planning on Thursday October 22 at 7:30.  There are plenty of copies available at the library and it is a YA story, so you can finish it in the next few weeks.  Here is a trailer for it...

This book is going to be made into a movie in 2016, I believe.  I really wanted to read something spooky or Halloweenish- but I get too scared! So, the title at least says "Monster" in it, right?!

Hi Everyone!

It looks like my original book choice is going to be too difficult to get before the end of September. I am immersed in all things Regency right now, but I haven't read everything by Jane Austen.  For September we're going to read Persuasion, instead. Plan on book club the last Wednesday of September (September 30th)!

Hope you enjoy it! It is book 2 in a series, but you won't be lost if you haven't read the first one.

Hey everyone! Sorry I'm not on the ball this month but the book I have chosen is "No Biking in the House Without a Helmet" by Melissa Faye Green. It is one of my favorites ever! So funny and touching. I will find a synopsis somewhere and post it below.
Also not sure what date I will pick yet. I will get back to you!

Melissa Fay Greene is known for award-winning nonfiction and eloquent journalism, but she is also a mother. She and her husband Don Samuel are the parents of four children by birth and five adopted as older children from foreign orphanages.
As the younger non-English-speaking ones multiplied, Donny began referring to their end of the upstairs hallway as “the international concourse.” And if one child complained and a second one piped up, he observed: “Another country heard from.”
“While parents our age graduated from elementary school,” writes Melissa, “we—like the dimwitted students of yore—have been held back, forced to repeat grades with people a lot younger.”
