May

Hey there!

Thanks to Courtney for a lovely evening and now I am sure you are all so anxious to know what the next book is!  I am hosting in May and we are going to read "The False Prince" by Jennifer Nielsen.  This is a book that reminds me why I love to read!  It has great characters, an exciting premise and draws you in to a whole other world!  Trust me, it will not disappoint.  It's young adult and the first of a trilogy.  All three books have been released,  so you don't have to wait to see how it all ends.  I have to wait on picking a date, but happy reading!!!

Here  is the official synopsis:

THE FALSE PRINCE is the thrilling first book in a brand-new trilogy filled with danger and deceit and hidden identities that will have readers rushing breathlessly to the end.

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point -- he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

As Sage moves from a rundown orphanage to Conner's sumptuous palace, layer upon layer of treachery and deceit unfold, until finally, a truth is revealed that, in the end, may very well prove more dangerous than all of the lies taken together.

An extraordinary adventure filled with danger and action, lies and deadly truths that will have readers clinging to the edge of their seats.

Enjoy! Oh, the library has plenty available copies and we also have couple already floating around the neighborhood people own.

April

I'm not very good at updating this blog.  And I'm not sure who still checks it out.  But this is from Courtney Blackham...

Hi everyone- I am hosting for April and the book I have chosen is "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. It's a quick read but just to warn you, while it is fiction, it deals with cancer and death in case you are sensitive to these topics.
The library has a lot of copies so even though the hold list might be long, it moves quickly. I finished the book in a couple of days.
It will probably be on Thursday, April 24th but will let you know for sure when it gets closer. If you can't make it that night, let me know!

January

I've decided to host book club in January because I loved the book, Jessica suggested!  I couldn't put it down, and read it in 2 days (those of you who know me, know that's unlike me).  It will be a great discussion... in fact Kara's Mom said it should be a required read for all Middle Schoolers.  I agree!

Anyway, the book is "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio

I'm planning on having book club Thursday, January 23rd.

We also need these months to host:

February-
March-
April-
May-
June- Jen Olsen
July- no book club

Thanks!

I have not been good about updating this.  But the books are current on the sidebar!

The book for October is: The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.

We decided to choose another Newbery Award winning book.
Here's the summary: The mysterious death of an eccentric millionaire brings together an unlikely assortment of heirs who must uncover the circumstances of his death before they can claim their inheritance.

The date/time/host...TBA

Thursday, June 27th, 7pm
Nadine's home
Falling to Heaven: The Surprising Path to Happiness by James L. Ferrell
Same author: The Holy Secret, The Peacegiver

There will be 5 copies and one Audio book at the Riverton Library starting next week (maybe one or two copies as soon as next Tuesday).

I really want to do a book club on Les Miserables. In order for me to keep preparing for that and to give us more time to read, and/or view the movie, go to London and see the show live, practice your singing (I am thinking Karaoke), come with the best deep thought….

I will be hosting Les Miserables in November.

I will try to have a couple copies on hold and the audio book/CD for us to read between now and then.
I have the movie if anyone wants to borrow it. The DVD of the concert is also available in the libraries.

How many of you would like to read the book? Let me know so I know if I need to ask for more than a couple books to place on hold.

Happy Summer Reading!!!!

I thought it would be a fun one to read with the movie coming out next month. I will put together a movie night once it's out and anyone is welcome to come to that! I will probably do book club on the 25th of April but I'll send out more info when it gets closer. Happy Reading!
