January

I wanted to let everyone know the book club book for January in case you wanted to put a hold on it or maybe ask Santa for it (ha ha ha!) The book I have chosen is called "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. It looks like you can order it from amazon in paper back for abt $10 there are also SEVERAL copies at the Library. You may want to put a hold on it now though as it looks like it was checked out for the most part. The following is a summary of the book...hope you enjoy! I am actually really excited to be able to host, I haven't been able to make it to a ton of the meetings but I have read all of the books!

I am planning on hosting it Wednesday January 25th @ 7:00 p.m. at my house 3427 W. Chatel Dr.

It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.
